“NAF is proud to support FOAHS as it continues to provide a safe haven for the abandoned and neglected animals of Carlton County.”

Friends of Animals Humane Society (FOAHS) in Cloquet, MN, provides a humane and sustainable community for all animals through education, advocacy, and the promotion of respect and compassion. FOAHS was begun in 1983 by two area women with a passion for lost, neglected, abandoned, and abused animals. In 1988 they became a 501(c)(3) organization, and over time it became apparent that they needed a building to house the animals. So after years of fundraising, FOAHS bought a building in 2001. Over the past 15 years they developed a surgical suite so spays and neuters could be performed onsite, 12 outdoor kennels on a concrete slab were added to make it easier to take dogs outside, and four cat “habicat” rooms were created where 10 to 15 cats live together. Last year FOAHS took in about 550 animals that were lost, abandoned, or surrendered by their owners, or transferred from other shelters/rescues.

The building they purchased in 2001 served FOAHS well, but the organization needed a bigger and more up-to-date facility. FOAHS purchased a two-story building that is more than twice the size of its former home. NAF was proud to provide a loan to FOAHS to help with the remodeling of the building (new air filtration system, rooms to house sick or non-available animals, more exercise areas, more storage, etc.) to provide updated facilities to better serve the needs of the animals.
